Visual Identity System

Location

University promotional materials sometimes need to include our city and state location. Consider using the nameplate/location combination in print and television advertising that reaches regional and national audiences and printed banners and posters that are used and distributed out-of-state.

If further explanation is required, please refer to our contacts list for the office that can provide you with the appropriate information.

Alignment/Typography

The flush left option should be used for layouts based on flush left typography. The city and state are set in Univers Black Italic, upper and lower case, as shown.

The centered option should be used for layouts based on centered typography. The city and state are set in Berkeley Medium, all caps, with loose letter spacing as shown.

Our nameplate combined with the location in this configuration is the only acceptable identifier for our university. Do not combine a college or unit name or a themeline with this nameplate/location combination.

Digitized versions of the nameplate/location combination are available for download on the Printing Services web site.

If further explanation is required, please refer to our contacts list for the office that can provide you with the appropriate information.

Area of Isolation

An area of isolation must be provided for the nameplate/location combination to achieve maximum visual impact. Do not place type, photos, or any other elements within this area. The amount of space surrounding all four sides of the nameplate/location combination is determined by half the height of the nameplate's large capital letters (I, S, or U).

If further explanation is required, please refer to our contacts list for the office that can provide you with the appropriate information.

Color

The following colors for our nameplate/location combination were chosen to preserve the integrity of our identity and should be used whenever possible. The combination may be printed all in one color; preferably red, warm gray, khaki, or black, or in two-color combinations as shown below. If a two-color publication does not use black as one of its colors, the nameplate/location combination should be used in the same color as the text.
